ACTs live online session on Identifying Gifted and Talented Learners provided a fresh take on inclusive classrooms

Asian College of Teachers conducted a thought-provoking CPD live online session on “Identifying Gifted and Talented Learners” which was facilitated by an educational expert, Ms. Sussan George, an erudite educator with 18 years of teaching experience in Gujarat, India and Dubai & Sharjah, UAE on 11th February, 2022.

The motivating session threw light on the fact that a classroom comprises diverse learners and with the increase in inclusive classrooms, teachers have to accommodate different types of learners with various needs. This creates a need for teachers who can identify gifted learners and cater to their unique needs in an efficacious way. The live online session addressed this issue and ascertained that such sessions are beneficial for 21st century teaching professionals. Ms. George covered various aspects like understanding the gifted and the talented and what is the difference between the two, the various facets of gifted children in the classroom, the way/s to identify the gifted and the talented learners, catering to the unique needs of gifted and talented in the classroom, the difference in curriculum, and the ways a teacher can be more supportive in an inclusive setting. Identification of gifted learners is vital as their talents remain hidden mostly and identification of their giftedness can aid teachers to help them reach their full potential. The live online session exactly harped on the ways to design lessons keeping these learners in mind and provide a supportive and dynamic environment to enhance their academic experience. The participants were very keen, open and interactive in grasping different perspectives on inclusive classrooms and gifted/talented learners. Asian College of Teachers’ live online CPD sessions for teachers/trainers aim to upgrade today’s teaching workforce, equipping them with the latest teaching approaches and methods to be at par with global standards while contributing effectively to the field of education.
