ACT conducted a stimulating webinar on 'Using Storybooks to develop Language Skills and Healthy Brains'

16th January 2022

Asian College of Teachers conducted a stimulating CPD webinar on “Using Storybooks to Develop Language Skills and Healthy Brains: Early Primary Students” which was facilitated by an international educational expert, Ms. Jennifer Schmidt (MA TESOL, New York; MBA Entrepreneurship, Spain; Teaching Certification in Music and TESOL, New York; BA Music Theory and Composition, New York) on 14th January, 2022.

The thought-provoking session explored the idea of reading and storytelling to young learners that yields brain development and imagination and how it develops language and emotions and strengthens relationships. Various aspects were covered like ways to engage younger students, how to activate prior knowledge while teaching new words, why it is important to help kids develop theory of mind, promoting active listening and simple reciprocal conversation based on the stories. Interactive storytelling techniques were reviewed which helps in promoting creative thinking in students etc. Ms. Schmidt also threw light on the fact that reading a variety of books sparks physical activity in the brain, activating those areas of the brain that process words and form meaning. Participants were very enthusiastic and interactive in grasping the various techniques that promote creative thinking and shape brain development in children.

Asian College of Teachers’ live online CPD workshops for teachers/trainers have been designed to empower today’s teaching professionals both new and experienced, acquainting them with the latest teaching approaches and techniques so that they not only teach but touch the lives of the next gen learners.
